Adult Vaccination Program in the United States
Who will pay for the cervical cancer/HPV vaccination?

May, 2006- The NCCC believes that everyone should have the opportunity to receive the vaccine against cervical cancer/HPV. In the United States, there are good programs in place for vaccinating children. However, what about adults? A woman may find herself divorced or a widow. It makes sense for this woman to receive the vaccine. Will she be able to get the cervical cancer/HPV vaccine? What if she is poor and without insurance? Where will adults get vaccinated and who will pay for the vaccination against cervical cancer/HPV disease? Will our enlisted women in the military be able to receive the vaccine?

The military can vaccinate our enlisted women. HMO's and private insurance companies can vaccinate their members. State and County Departments of Health, Title X and Womens Clinics can vaccinate women at risk that go to their clinics. The CDC Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention Program can develop a prevention model to allow vaccinations at the clinic sites they offer their early detection programs at. It is important to make sure there is new adequate funding in place to allow for these women to be vaccinated!

We believe women of all ages should be allowed to receive the cervical cancer/HPV vaccine. This vaccine should also be paid for as other vaccines are in the United States. In the USA, there should be an ADULT Vaccination Program (AVP). We encourage you to write and call your representatives in Washington, DC to encourage the development of an adult vaccination program.

Please read below some partial information from the CDC (ACIP) on vaccinations. This policy below was completed in 1991. We feel it is time to update this policy to include an adult vaccination program in the United States. What do you think?
